A New Year REVELATION by De Harris

A New Year REVELATION by De Harris

I think in terms of the day’s resolutions, not the years.
~Henry Moore

WOW, it’s 2023! After so many challenges over the past couple of years, can you sense the energy and anticipation in the air? So far, I’ve been asked many times what my New Year resolutions are, and my answer is as it has been for many years now… NONE! No, I’m no way near where I want to be mentally, physically, or spiritually. Nor is my life anywhere near where it should be, but I see each day as a gift and my days are filled with the quest of being and striving for the best person I can be. This shift came about because long ago, like Henry Moore, I too decided to make each day my New Year!

Atlanta Web Design 404.590.4522Initially what brought this on is that several years ago I noticed those around me would get caught up in events and occasions instead of living their daily life at a standard that embodied the very ideals, character, and values that the season presented. Ideals such as – goodwill, charity, kindness, reverence, acceptance, etc. It was as if because of the holidays you were suddenly given permission to slow down and become nicer to one another under the guise of the season. I often wondered if the world through the end of the year the only time was to make this type of behavior a priority. I think not! What’s sad is to see it done each year in full rerun mode. Year after year without any real regard or reflection on how important it is to live these ideals each and every day, not just when December rolls around. What if these same individuals would ‘give’ themselves that same ‘permission’ every day of the year? One can’t help but IMAGINE (as John Lennon stated so well) how much of a better place this world would be if everyone would look at each day as a new beginning and engage in kindness, goodwill, and charity like they do so easily during the holiday season. What if everyone resolved to act on each day’s resolution, as opposed to just their list of New Year resolutions?

It is well documented that almost one-third of people who create New Year resolutions break them before the end of January and more than 75% will do so within 3 months. With such numbers, it is well worth contemplating the idea of an integrity-centered approach with a high value daily resolution list as opposed to simply focusing on these values only at the beginning of the year. Once you make the decision then you wake up each day with a clear understanding that you are to achieve the best from yourself for today and by doing so, the pressure lifts and freedom are achieved as you work toward meeting your long-term goals. For example, instead of committing to losing 10lbs, you would commit to loving yourself and putting your health first. Then when decisions appear which are usually tempting you can remind yourself that you love and care for yourself more than your desire for the unhealthy snack that stands before you. Making enough of these healthy decisions will eventually help you lose the pounds you desire but also spill into other areas of your life for better decision making. You lose the negative self-talk and guilt that is associated with what you “must” do and replace those with what you “desire to achieve” in your life and business. You see, there is a significant difference between having a shopping list of year-long “to do’s” versus having clear goals broken into bits & pieces that speak to your character and help build confidence. Smaller goals for self-improvement turn into larger wins in all areas of your life, making each day count as your new beginning. In turn, you will enjoy life more because you have honored yourself as a person who lives life and sets you up for success. This is crucial because when we simply act on what’s on the “to do” list we’re not getting the full benefit of living our best life and becoming our best self.

This New Year revelation may bring to light the mountains that may have inspired you to create a New Year resolution list in the first place. Failure will disappear once you focus on what is your best YOU and what that means within your life since each lesson learned brings you even closer to the person you wish to become. The world just works better when you embrace living a value based & integrity centered existence. Little actions add up over time and will set you up for success because you will be striving toward what success means for you in your life, not just achieving a shopping list of “musts”. It is in your best interest to remember to enjoy each day to the fullest because held within every moment are grand opportunities for you to become better than you were yesterday! Here is another quote that is my wish for you…

May all your troubles last as long as your New Year resolutions.

Blessings always and best wishes for your continued good health, abundant wealth & never-ending success. ~De
