This year as in years past I review my resolutions. Do they help me? Did I actually check in with them? For me every year I break them into “Life Goals” Resolutions just doesn’t cut it for me. Read the definition. A firm decision to do or not do something??? WHAT??? Contentious manner??? I want to improve myself, life the life God wants me to live. I don’t want to focus on the negative I want to look ahead and see where God is leading and follow that direction. Each year I set aside a day to discuss with God what he wants me to do in the next year. This year I broke that day down into several hour blocks of time to focus on several areas: Health, wealth, spiritual and development. I listen, which is hard, I pray, I read over the scriptures that are placed in my mind. What is really my purpose? Health? Is my purpose to lose weight? Maybe if that means I can be more active and do what God is asking me to do, does it give me more energy to volunteer at the homeless shelter or read books to the kids in preschool? Does it mean I will go to the doctor’s and follow up on the medical advice given so I can be around for my children? Not for vanity, it’s to take care of what God has given to you, to use it for his purpose. Wealth: (I know strange one), as we have become debt free (except for the house) it has allowed us to do more for the people of God, to give, to support others. Not at church necessarily, in our community, where the really needy people are located. Spiritual: what is your relationship with God our Father and his son, do you speak to them regularly? I don’t know where I would be without those conversations, it’s listening, it’s seeing, it’s following…. Development: Say What? Each year I take the time to see where I need to improve my skills, take a class, develop those skills and talents that God has given me and use them for His good. Write them out, revisit them, update them, change them, listen, learn and then do something! The key is in the usage of the goals, don’t just read them, and implement them! He will guide you! Happy New Year!
