27 Aug My Happiest Summer (and all Seasons!) Vacation Place by Wanda Whitley
Where is the one place in the world that my worries drift away? The lines in my forehead literally cease their existence? My breathing is invigorated by an infusion of a faint mist of saltiness – a scent as fresh as it is delightful, as soothing as a balm to the sinuses. Where is it that my ears hear a roar that is not a stressful interruption, but is as calming as a soft lull – all at once steadying the fast-beat of my heart, taking down stress levels from 10-plus to zero, as soon I come within ear-shot of the first wave? And where is it that my eyes behold such majesty and power? From the emerald-blue colors that sparkle like diamonds when the sun hits it, to the frothy waves as this beautiful rush rolls back-and-forth, coming only as far as God commanded it to come long ago, to its shore? And the shore! Millions – no, gazillions of tiny grains of sand envelope my feet as I walk along, surrounding my toes with soft, warm bliss. And the breeze, again, with the faint scent of salt, the smell of sunshine itself – such aromatherapy as this one cannot place in a bottle. And what else is that I hear? A gull flying by, not one, but two, cawing an alert as they glide effortlessly in the sky. Out in the distance, a boat, its horn, an eerie lonely sound, is also as soothing as if it was part of a lullaby…
Of course, it is the sea, or the ocean, both are terms of endearment of this special place. The sea, all at once mysterious and ethereal, and at times raging, brings me awe every time I am blessed to be in its setting. Such beauty and power – and such a scene! When the sun rises over it, or when the sun sets and disappears from it – again, the brilliant beams dazzle across the waves, the hues in the sky creating inspiration for countless photos, whether camera inspired or by an artist’s brush. And a full moon over this water? One of the most breathtaking things I have ever seen. The light from the moon creating a golden path along the dark waters at night – the closest thing I can even begin to describe this sight is that surely the golden streets in heaven must shimmer like this!
The ocean, water full of life, God created just for us. The sea, Jesus walked upon these waters, he calmed the raging storms of this sea, just as he calms the raging storms for you and me. This beautiful place, where I find peace, where stress goes away, even if it is just for a little while. The sea – my happiest vacation place here on earth.
