When someone asks me what I do for a living, I tell them I am a “Friendship Ambassador,” which usually gets either a giggle or one of those side glances. But honestly, I really love the title. To me “Friendship is a Girl’s Best Friend!” I have learned from personal experience when women “do” community together the world is a happier place. It is because of this that I encourage women to take get out of their comfort zones and develop new friendships.
So, what is a friend? It is a person (or sometimes persons) who you build trust with, enjoy being in their company and share common interests. Friendship is one of the most vital keys you have in life – it can catapult you into a new season of adventure, bring you joy and give you someone to experience life’s ups and downs.
As a Friendship Ambassador, I love to share with people the positive side of friendship. When you walk out of life with positive relationships, you will not settle for negative influences. I have found that if you want to maintain positive friendships, it is important to live by the following friendship rules:
Rule #1: Respect one another’s differences. You won’t always see eye to eye and that is OK.
Rule #2: Learn your friend’s boundaries.
Rule #3: Confidentiality is a must.
Rule #4: Do not manipulate a friend – respect her yes’s and her no’s.
Rule #5: Give your friend space. You do not need to spend every waking moment together.
Rule #6: Friends are allowed to have other friends.
With these rules in place, you will develop strong friendships built upon mutual love, trust, and respect, and most importantly, you are free to be yourself. You can share your fears and talk it out no matter how insane or crazy it may sound at the time. In fact, my closest friends love to tease me, tell me when I am wrong or when I need an attitude change, and at the same time they are also the first ones to cheer me on when I am at my lowest or to celebrate with me in the little things.
As a Friendship Ambassador, I have met the most amazing people from all walks of life. My life is full of blessings because of the gift of friendship. My hope for you is that you can relax in life and take the time to meet new people and experience life through the eyes of friendship.
