Somebody once asked me, What was the hardest lesson you ever learned? What was your biggest struggle, and how did you pull through? The hardest lesson I ever had to learn, was how to see myself through Gods eyes and how wonderfully beautiful I really am. I was born with a facial disfigurement. My face is partially paralyzed. For years I struggled with low self-esteem. I hated how I looked. By the world’s standards, I was hideous and unsightly. I was always laughed at and teased. I was called every name imaginable. Even my teachers mocked me. I would never look in a mirror. I didn’t care how I looked. In my eyes, I was ugly. Neither nice clothes or make-up would make me feel any better about myself.
One day I decided I was going to try on some nice clothes. I found a really beautiful dress and tried it on. I looked in the mirror and thought, Wow, I am looking really good! I like what I see! I saw myself as a princess with a beautiful gown and sparkling crown. That’s when I realized just how wonderfully beautiful I was in God’s eyes. After years of hating and despising myself, I could honestly say, I love me!
Maybe you feel unloved and unsightly. Maybe you feel your life doesn’t matter. The world has told you that you’re ugly and no good. You’ll never amount to anything. Those are lies! Don’t let yourself be defined by what others say or think. See yourself as God sees you. Know that you are wonderfully beautiful!
Every day I wake up and choose to see myself through God’s eyes. It is not always easy. I still get laughed at and teased, but I hold my head up high. I know who I am. I pray you will realize your true beauty.
