Stay Fall Fit by Ashton Jones

Stay Fall Fit by Ashton Jones

Have you looked at the calendar recently? Do you realize that it is almost officially Fall? Now you’re thinking about pumpkins, bonfires, and leaves changing colors, right? Slowly shifting into the hibernation mindset, right? NO! You are not a bear! You are an ever changing and growing human being and hibernation is not part of the deal.

Just because the seasons are changing, the weather is getting cooler, and your schedule is filling up doesn’t mean that you can slack off on taking care of yourself. That means staying active and changing up your routine a little bit here and there. These small changes can make or break your ability to stick to your health regimen. Don’t let yourself fall into a rut or, even worse, stop doing an activity just because the weather changed. Treadmills, stationary bikes, and elliptical machines have come a long way over the years and are easy to learn and adapt to your current and changing skill level. As the weather starts to cool off, think about taking classes that aren’t affected by the weather, such as yoga, Pilates, salsa, ballet, rock climbing, etc. The possibilities are endless!

The most important thing to remember is to stay active. Of course, if you are trying something new, be sure to ease into the activity to reduce the risk of getting injured. If you do have to cut back on your level of activity for some reason, remember to adjust your caloric intake as well. Stay on track and it will make any New Year’s resolutions you create easier to attain. If you need another reason to stay active, remember that “exercise creates endorphins, endorphins make you happy” and happy people tend to stay more sane during the holidays!

Born and raised in Roswell, GA, Ashton grew up dancing and enjoying numerous outdoor activities. Her zest for competition and social interaction with fellow athletes led her to the realization that a career in physical therapy would continue that satisfaction. Having recovered from multiple foot, ankle, and low back issues, Ashton is acutely aware of the demands athletes and other patients encounter. By combining her years of dance experience, along with the empathy necessary to work with various personalities and background, she has been able to relate to and better treat the patients that she encounters. Not only has Ashton been both a patient and a therapist in the clinic, she has also spent time on the road as a therapist with several National Tours, including Wicked! and FELA!. When not in the clinic, she can be found hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, playing her dog Daisy, organizing/cleaning, or simply spending time with her family and friends.

.

She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from North Georgia College and State University in 2010. She is currently certified in Dry Needling, FMS, SFMA, and is an Emergency First Responder. Up next she plans to get certified to be a hand therapist!
